Veteran Biopharmaceutical CEO Joins EMIS Board
Enhanced Medical & Insurance Systems (EMIS), a privately held corporation whose unique expert medical systems make possible the identification and then proper treatment of genuine chronic pain suffers, announced today the appointment of Mento A. “Chuck” Soponis to its board of directors.
"Chuck has exactly the kind of broad healthcare- and medical-related experience that will help us accelerate sales of our Tests" explained Tom Benghauser, an EMIS co-founder and the company’s Chief Operating Officer. “He has more than twenty-two years experience as an innovative and successful leader in the biopharmaceutical field, and both his business acumen and perspectives on the healthcare industry will be invaluable to EMIS.”
From February 2006 until his recent retirement, Soponis was Chairman and CEO of Nanotherapeutics, Inc., a privately held corporation focused on the development and application of proprietary drug delivery systems. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Oragenics, a biopharmaceutical firm which he took public on the American Stock Exchange in 2003. Before joining Oragenics, Soponis was President and CEO of USBiomaterials Corporation, a company specializing in health-care products for bone regeneration and dental care.
Soponis was also Associate Deputy Secretary of Commerce in the Carter administration. He received a JD degree with honors from the George Washington University and a bachelors degree from Princeton University.
“I have had the opportunity to scrutinize the EMIS expert systems in great detail,” states Soponis, “and I am extremely impressed with their vast potential for conserving increasingly scarce healthcare resources by both bringing closure to numerous workers comp and accident liability cases and then identifying the treatment regimens that will bring relief for legitimate chronic pain sufferers.”
EMIS is the exclusive worldwide licensee of the Mensana Clinic On-Line Pain Validity Test, which - with 95% accuracy - can identify which chronic pain complainants will have moderate or severe abnormalities on objective medical testing, i.e. whose complaints of pain are legitimate, and – with 85% accuracy - which ones will have no or only mild objective abnormalities, i.e. who are faking their pain or exaggerating it.
EMIS also has exclusive rights to the Mensana Clinic Diagnostic Paradigm and Treatment Algorithm, an exact replication of the highly effective screening, diagnostic, and medical testing protocols used with more than 7,000 pain patients over a thirty year period at the Menasha Clinic, which Business Week named as one of the eight best pain clinics in the US along with Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic.
